Here are some exciting updates from R Discovery in November that will improve your reading experience, allowing you to read journal articles for free.
Export articles from the R Discovery app to Mendeley/Zotero
As you read journal articles, wouldn’t you like the option of saving all your favorite, most relevant articles in one place? We have just what you want!
Last month we built a feature that allows users to export articles from the R Discovery app directly to their reference manager, making it easier to read journal articles. Just click on “Export to reference manager”, log in to your relevant account, and voila, the article will appear in your reference manager’s reading list!
Read journal articles from your favorite journals
Now, by reading journals online and following your favorite journals, you can see more articles from them in your feed.
To get started, go to Menu on your R Discovery app’s bottom navigation bar and click on “Personalize my feed”. From the personalization page, you can
-
-
-
-
-
- search for your favorite journals and start following them,
- check out our suggestions for you and follow any that you prefer, and
- manage your journal preferences.

Not only will you be able to read journal articles from your favorite journals in your personalized feed, the “Explore” screen will also include a section called “Your Journal Feed”, dedicated to sharing articles from the journals that you follow.
Topic selection during onboarding is now much easier!
New users who may struggle to find and read journal articles while onboarding can instead search for familiar paper titles from their topics of interest. Our algorithm will automatically extract topics from these selected papers and show similar papers in their feed.
If a user wishes to change or fine-tune the extracted topics and read journal articles, they can do so anytime from the “Personalize my feed” screen of the app.
Care about the UN’s sustainable development goals?
Here’s everything that matters in one place!
As you may know, the United Nations has 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to transform our world into a much better place by 2030; now, you can read journal articles for free on this topic.
At R Discovery, we recently put together nearly 100 million articles from a cross-section of publishers, thousands of journals, and various indexes to help interested folks stay updated by reading journals online, with research and other resources that are related to these goals. Take a look here!
This first-of-its-kind collection was made possible by the amazing AI, ML, and NLP technologies powering R Discovery. We’re excited at the countless possibilities that have opened up and will constantly be harnessing technology to make scientific knowledge accessible to all! This allows you to read journal articles on research topics that are most relevant for you.
Many of these new features are only available on the app’s latest version; please update your app to read journal articles!
As we come near the end of an exciting year at R Discovery, we want to thank you for helping us grow with your feedback and support. We believe that the coming year will be even more special as we come closer to launching many of the features that users like you have requested. Keep telling us what you want – we make a note of every suggestion that will allow you to read journal articles for free.
We would love to hear your feedback and any suggestions on what you’d like for us to work on. You can either write to us if you have any ideas to share, or choose your preferred slot to talk to us.
And while you’re here – If you could take 2 minutes of your time to answer our short survey, it will help us understand how well R Discovery is serving your needs and helping you read journal articles that matter.
We shall share the next update in 2022. Enjoy the year-end festivities, and stay safe!
