Have you ever wanted to connect with like-minded researchers, share your research process or findings, and get support and advice from the experts? The answer to most of this is to build a strong researcher network. However, we know networking—a vital academic research skill for career advancement—can be challenging, especially for early career researchers. Most don’t know where to start or how to proceed, which makes the notion of networking a daunting task for academics. Here’s how the Researcher Voice Community Forum by Researcher.Life can help.
What is Researcher Voice?
Conversations with researchers for over two decades and CACTUS’ survey on mental health in academia gave birth to the idea of creating a platform for the Researcher Voice. This idea was then put into place by Researcher.Life with the aim of providing academics with an inclusive forum, where researchers can come together to talk about issues that matter, receive guidance on how to tackle obstacles in academia, and be able to find simple solutions to some of the most common researcher problems.
Today, Researcher Voice is a secure Facebook Group with more than 300 active posts on topics ranging from academic careers and publication support to self-care and researcher well-being. It provides a safe space for researchers from all over the world, whether they are just starting out or are more experienced to connect and grow. The forum is designed to help researchers converse openly with other members of the group, feel empowered to share their story and be more tolerant about their own and others’ struggles, and to create stronger networks within academia, well beyond their own institutions. In the long term, this community intends to cultivate a supportive research atmosphere where organizations, financial supporters, and publishers can help researchers to flourish in an encouraging scholarly environment.
How can being a part of a global community aid your research journey?
This Facebook moderated group is a vibrant and growing community of researchers who are passionate about their work, and who are always eager to help each other out. Whether you are new to research or a seasoned professional, you can find a home here. Members of the Researcher Voice community learn from each other by sharing tips and tricks that worked for them and discussing the latest news and trends in research. You can also find help with tricky research problems, get feedback on your work, or find a potential collaborator for your study. And that’s not all – you can access peer-to-peer knowledge sharing sessions, focused writing retreats, and much more through this global researcher community.
