A good literature-search strategy is critical to developing a robust research question and writing a high-quality research paper. Inadequate or ineffective literature searches may sometimes lead to manuscript rejection on grounds of a poorly defined research question, weak arguments, or even lack of novelty.
Finding the right literature can feel like a major challenge to researchers since the amount of research content and the number of platforms where it is published are both increasing every year.
The difficulties related to discovering literature in a fast, easy manner were especially underscored in the past year. Researchers worldwide were working against time to process the accumulating literature on COVID-19—either for their own research on the topic or for the peer reviews they were conducting.
Recognizing the need to help researchers identify the best approaches to find and access literature, Cactus Communications (CACTUS), a technology company facilitating scientific advancement, organized a virtual global symposium on literature search. This symposium was powered by R Discovery, an AI-based mobile app developed by CACTUS that aims to optimize literature search for researchers. It was held on May 28, 2021, and it brought together multiple perspectives on how literature search can be conducted in an efficient and stress-free manner.
