In the competitive world of academic research, securing funding is paramount to ensuring that promising projects come to fruition. As researchers, we possess a deep understanding of our subjects, enabling us to articulate the significance, potential impact, and necessity of our work. Most often, our expertise is adequate to produce a grant application that is around 80% excellent. And yet, in today\u2019s funding landscape, 80% might not cut it. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The 90% rule is straightforward but vital to comprehend. While our expertise can guide our applications to about 80% excellence, it’s that crucial last 10% that propels an application into the top tier\u2014where it has a genuine shot at securing funding. The sad fact is that many decent applications at a 80-90% level go unfunded today. In other words, to be seriously considered for an award, applications must be at a 90% excellence level or above.<\/p>\n
