British Medical Journal<\/a>\u00a0(BMJ) recently launched the first use of R Discovery<\/a>, powered by UNSILO technology. There are a number of websites provided by the BMJ that are focused on medical journal articles in a certain subject \u2013 in this case, cancer (oncology).\u00a0Here<\/a>\u00a0is a link to the website.<\/p>\n

Some of the important BMJ articles, such as ESMO Open and BMJ Learning, a collection of medical case stories and medical journal articles, are listed on the oncology site.<\/p>\n

In the past, users interested in oncology themes had to browse through a plethora of medical journal articles and all 50+ BMJ publications to find a suitable article. The UNSILO service now automatically identifies any oncology-related articles from across the BMJ corpus using machine learning. On the website, in a section labelled \u201crecent articles,\u201d the 15 or so most recent research articles are displayed:<\/p>\n

Every 24 hours, the website is updated automatically, resulting in a new batch of medical journal articles every day.<\/p>\n

Talking about how the R Discovery<\/a> tech can improve access to BMJ articles, Isaac Jones, Digital Product Manager says<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started compiling lists of recent articles by hand,\u00a0keeping the lists up to date is very labour-intensive. In contrast, given that we have hundreds of medical topics that our users are interested in keeping up to date with, this technology enables us to scale up the entire process. We require human input only to define the concepts, following which the system automatically identifies the updated articles. The result is a better service for our customers<\/em>.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
